enable the Minister to specify in an instrument in writing a place that an applicant for a visa who is not in Australia at the time of the application is to provide certain personal identifiers; and
prescribe fingerprints as a type of personal identifier for the purposes of paragraph 40(3C)(a) of the Migration Act 1958.
Affected legislationThe following provisions of the Regulations are amended:
Part 2, paragraphs 2.04(1)(a) and (b) the words ‘subregulation (2) or (4)’, are omitted
Part 2, paragraphs 2.04(1)(a) and (b) the words ‘subregulation (2) or (3)’, are inserted
Part 2, subregulation 2.04(3), is substituted
Part 2, subregulation 2.04(4), is substituted
Part 2, subregulation 2.04(5), is substituted
Part 2, subregulation 2.04(6), is inserted

Transitional provisionsThese amendments apply in relation to an application for a visa made on or after 1 July 2011.
